Deleting Contacts - Are Bounces And Unsubscribes Saved?

Category: Marketing

VipeCloud stores bounced emails and unsubscribed contacts separately from the contact record itself. So, your list of bounced emails and unsubscribed contacts will be kept, even if you delete the records.

If you delete a contact that unsubscribed from your newsletter and then they somehow wind up in your contacts again down the road and you accidentally try to send them another mass email, they will be skipped over by the system.

You will also see that they are unsubscribed in their contact record:

Where Can I Find My Lists of Bounced or Unsubscribed Contacts?

These can be accessed from your Setup page. For your convenience, here are the links:

Do I Have To Worry About Uploading Bounced / Unsubscribed Contacts In The Future?

No, if there's a chance of you accidentally, or unavoidably, uploading bounced/unsubscribed contacts in the future and having them on contact lists that you are sending to, they will still be uploaded into the system, but they won't receive future mass emails from you.

The only way these contacts would receive a mass email from you is if you were to manually override their status of bounced or unsubscribed.

Why Is This Important?

Bounces:

Bounced emails will damage your sender score, which will make you look more like a spammer in the eyes of the recipient exchanges. If you send an email and it bounces, you will ideally never send an email to that email again - because you've already determined it's a bad email. So, if you were to delete a contact and accidentally add it to the system again, you will want your email system to help prevent you from sending to them again and causing another bounce.

Unsubscribes:

This is a matter of law. When a recipient requests that you no longer market to them, you are legally required to honor their request.
